About Emma

EMMA HAZELDINE.

Hi, I’m Emma! Welcome to Flow State; I’m glad you’re here. A little about me:

Professional: I’m a woman of many hats!

I am a Yoga Alliance Professionals yoga teacher and have taught yoga part-time since 2018. I started practising yoga in 2005, using it to balance the volume of run training that I was doing. Yoga has taken care of my body and mind since then. Over the years, most of my yoga students have been physically active parents with busy jobs, and they have used yoga classes as a time for self-care, peace, body maintenance, giggles and fun. Yoga should make you smile inside and out.

I have a doctorate and work part-time as a research fellow for a wonderful university research centre that collaborates with the NHS, social care, and community organisations to conduct research that improves treatment and services for people. The research centre has a growing body of research in the field of social prescribing (non-medical prescribing where the use of community-based activities can help to improve wellbeing) So, my two worlds (yoga and research) share some understanding. My academic background is in Health Psychology, and my PhD utilised a psychological framework to support changes in health behaviour.

My third hat is a shiny new hat that I will be donning in autumn 2024…maybe it will be a trucker’s cap?! I am training to be a CIMSPA accredited Personal Trainer and am a Lydiard Running Coach. In autumn 2024, Flow State will launch its personal training and run coaching offer as I switch up the balance of my life to include more Flow State and less university…exciting times! Updates, information, and bookable features will appear on the website in plenty of time for the launch date.

Personal:

I run. That never feels like an adequate description. I love to run a long way in beautiful places and on trails. I adore changing landscapes and weather, and I love watching the seasons shift beneath my feet. My heart and soul are intrinsically connected with the movement of my body in wild and beautiful places. My love affair with trail running has lasted nearly twenty years, and I can’t see us ever getting divorced. I’ve got some awesome personal challenges coming up very soon!

I strength train. When I lift, posture, body positioning, and focus lead to progress, and sleep, fuel, and recovery are necessitated. Over the years of consistent strength training with my inspirational coach, I have become exponentially more robust, and strength training has completely eliminated lower back pain. Strength training isn’t a mistress; it is more of an equal partner to running. It keeps me bombproof, and doing hard stuff is ever so good for the soul.

I practice yoga, but you know that already!
